Windows Vista
Setting up DSL on Windows Vista:

First, make sure all of the physical components are set up properly. Make sure the phone line is going directly from the phone jack on the wall to the DSL modem and with an Ethernet cable from the DSL modem to the computer.
Anything plugged into a phone line requires a filter (except for the DSL modem), otherwise DSL will not work, or the phone line will have a lot of static on it.

Second, set up the computer with the correct IP and DNS numbers:
- Go to Start, then Control Panel. Switch to Classic View.
- Double click on Network and Sharing Center.
- Under tasks on the left hand side, click on Manage Network Connections.
- Double click on the Local Area Network (LAN) icon.
- It does not go in the 1394 connection
- Click on Properties button, double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
- Set the first option to “Use the following IP address”
- Type in the IP address as:
- 208.0.236.xxx - Residential
- 209.45.205.xxx - Residential
- 209.45.206.xxx - Business
- Type in the Subnet Mask as:
- 255.255.255.128 - Residential
- 255.255.255.192 - Residential
- 255.255.255.240 - business
- Type in the Default Gateway:
- 209.45.205.65 - Residential whose IP is lower than 128
- 209.45.205. (66 - 127)
- 209.45.205.129 - Residential whose IP is higher than 129

- Set the Preferred DNS server to 63.149.55.3, and the Alternate (or secondary) DNS server to 63.149.55.1. Click Ok, then Ok again and you are all set up. You may have to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
- 209.45.205.65 - Residential whose IP is lower than 128
- Check Use default gateway on remote network.
